Jets wanted Arthur Smith

The Jets have Nathaniel Hackett as their offensive coordinator, yet they looked to add a second one this offseason. Pro Football Talk tells us that the New York franchise contacted Arthur Smith, who had just been fired from his position as head coach of the Falcons, in order to “coordinate the attack coordinated by Hackett”. If exchanges took place, Smith did not show interest, mainly because the role offered was not clear. The coach preferred to head to Pittsburgh where he is now (sole) offensive coordinator.

Xavier Worthy ready for battle

Xavier Worthy (WR, Chiefs) missed most of the offseason with a hamstring injury. But he was on the field for Kansas City's first training camp session on Wednesday.

“It's good to be back here with the guys and to be able to play football again. Obviously I'm still working to get back into the swing of things. But I'm here, I'm ready to work.”

The 28th overall pick in this year's draft, Worthy said he still benefited from the experience of offensive coordinator Matt Nagy. Now, he's looking forward to the opportunity to get back on the field.

“It’s a big deal for me. In college, I never missed a game, I never got hurt. So it’s a little frustrating that it happened. But I’ve had a chance to learn and improve in a different way, by learning the playbook.”

Injuries

Deshaun Watson on the comeback

After missing much of last season with a shoulder injury, Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson has been working on a personalized program this offseason. The quarterback was optimistic when asked about his annual 7-a-side football tournament.

“Everything has come together and I haven't had any setbacks or anything that's held me back. I'm in great shape, I've been pitching every day.”

As proof of his motivation, the player recently took part in a trip to Florida where he was able to meet up with his receivers. However, he declined to answer a question asking him if he would be limited at the start of camp.

They are placed on the injured list (PUP List): Tucker Kraft (TE, Packers), Zach Tom (OT, Packers)

They are placed on the non-football injury list (NFI List): Junior Colson (LB, Chargers), Kiran Amegadjie (OT, Bears)

Transactions

The main signings of the day: Kyle Sheets (WR, Chiefs), Chris Reed (OL, Texans), Tyler Makatevich (LB, Steelers)

In short

– The Houston Texans are the first to be at full strength at training camp. While the other teams have only called up their rookies, the Texans brought their entire roster this Wednesday. The reason for this early return? The players will participate in the Hall of Fame Game starting August 1st. They will face the Chicago Bears, whose rookies arrived on Tuesday and whose roster will be at full strength starting Friday.

– According to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk This Wednesday, Caleb Williams (QB, Bears) wanted to add a clause in his agreement with the Bears to remove the possibility for Chicago management to use the franchise tag at the end of his rookie contract. However, the request was refused.
