New York Giants relegate Daniel Jones to the bench

Brian Daboll indicated this week that he would take advantage of his week off to evaluate his options at the quarterback position. It seems that his decision has been made. According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Mediathe New York Giants chose to bench Daniel Jones.

This decision comes after another complicated performance from the quarterback. In Germany and against the Panthers, Daniel Jones threw two interceptions and no touchdowns against one of the worst teams in the league. A recurring problem this season, while Jones is a real burden for his team. In his wake, the Giants are in last place in the NFC East with a sad record of 2-8. A decision all the more logical as Jones has an injury guarantee in his contract. If he were to suffer a serious injury and could not start the next season, the New York franchise would owe him $23 million. A risk that New Yorkers prefer not to take.

Now, it's hard to imagine another team wanting to deal with the Giants to get Jones. The most likely would be that the quarterback would be released in the offseason, which would allow for “only” $22 million in “dead money” in the franchise’s finances.

Tommy DeVito takes over… Waiting for the Draft?

We take the same ones, and we start again! As in 2023, Tommy DeVito will take over from Jones. Undrafted from the University of Illinois, the pitcher was cautious during his first interim. In 9 games played last season, he completed 64% of his passes for 1,101 yards, 8 touchdowns and 3 interceptions. If at the age of 26 he does not represent a long-term solution for replacing Daniel Jones, he should serve as an intermediary while awaiting the selection of a new quarterback next April. The eyes and hopes of the Giants now turn to the next Draft.
