A new broadcaster is joining the dance for American football. This Wednesday, the NFL announces that Netflix will broadcast the two Christmas meetings.
The Christmas posters will be announced with the entire 2024 calendar on the night of Wednesday 15 to Thursday 16 May. As a reminder, Christmas falls on a Wednesday this season.
The league specifies that the streaming giant will also have at least one game in 2025 and 2026.
The NFL press release specifies that the matches broadcast on the platform will be available to subscribers around the world.
Netflix has already tested the NFL in documentary version
In 2023, Netflix had already taken its first foot into the NFL bath with “Quarterback”, a documentary series which followed several… quarterbacks.
This summer, “Receiver” will follow Davante Adams, Justin Jefferson, George Kittle, Deebo Samuel and Amon-Ra St. Brown. We assume that if successful, Netflix will not hesitate to go as far as “punter” and “long snapper” to supply its industry with more or less informative sports documentaries.
On the NFL side, we continue to test new broadcasters. After Yahoo, Dailymotion and more recently Amazon.
The amount of this new agreement has not yet been revealed. But Netflix probably had to write a sizable check for what looks like assured audience success in the United States.
