MVP Race – Week 5: Josh “Superman” Allen!

Thursday is MVP! Superlatives are starting to run out to define Josh Allen who still completely flew over the match against the Steelers with his talent. Patrick Mahomes does not have much to envy him who had to go into overdrive to recover from a significant deficit against the Raiders. Behind it is more complicated for Lamar Jackson who still provided the essentials this week. Jalen Hurts, he continues his faultless, well helped by a still explosive footwork. Justin Herbert closes this top 5 discreetly.

1- Josh Allen (+1) Quarterback – Buffalo Bills (4-1)

5 games – 1,651 yards at 66.8% – 14 touchdowns, 4 interceptions – 225 yards, 2 rushing touchdowns – 107.4 rating

Only one minute played and Josh Allen is already cornered in his two yards. Everyone is waiting for a run to protect the ball before returning it as far as possible to the Steelers. However, it is the moment chosen by Allen to launch one of these bombs which he has the secret and transform this desperate situation into a touchdown from 98 yards. And the worst part is that it was only a trailer of what was to follow in this game. Already close to 400 yards at halftime, Allen will simply have trampled on a completely overwhelmed Steelers defense. If Josh Allen was already a favorite for the MVP a week ago, his position today speaks for itself.

2- Patrick Mahomes (-1) Quarterback – Kansas City Chiefs (4-1)

5 games – 1398 yards at 66.7% – 15 touchdowns, 2 interceptions – 92 yards rushing – 110.5 rating

Week after week performances from Patrick Mahomes continue to be sensational. Not content with having one of the craziest touchdowns in the NFL last week, Mahomes decided this week to complete a 17-point comeback against the Raiders. With a completely unstoppable connection with his tight end Travis Kelce, author of four touchdowns, Mahomes and the Chiefs are indeed big favorites for a new Super Bowl.

3- Lamar Jackson (-) Quarterback – Baltimore Ravens (3-2)

5 games – 1,067 yards at 65% – 12 touchdowns, 5 interceptions – 374 yards, 2 rushing touchdowns – 97.9 rating

While Mahomes and Allen are jacks of all trades, Lamar Jackson has to do it all himself. The quarterback had no choice at the start of the season but to carry the hopes and destiny of the Ravens on his shoulders. Blame it on a defense that sometimes tends to shatter and forces Jackson to perform superhumanly to keep the boat afloat. Despite a whole tone below what he showed during the last three weeks of the season, he still provided the essentials against the Bengals. But if Baltimore’s defense continues to remain so suspect, Lamar Jackson alone will be hard-pressed to keep them winning alone.

4- Jalen Hurts (-) Quarterback – Philadelphia Eagles (5-0)

5 games – 1,359 yards at 67.9% – 4 touchdowns, 2 interceptions – 266 yards, 6 rushing touchdowns – 97.4 rating

The climb continues for Jalen Hurts! If his numbers are not spooky, being the quarterback of the last undefeated team in the league is nothing trivial. Having become a real effective double threat this year, his 6 touchdowns on the ground make him the second player in the league in this area behind Nick Chubb, the Browns runner. Be careful all the same at the arrival of the defeat, because when this one arrives, his 4 touchdowns and 2 interceptions could be a task for a quarterback. The upcoming game against the Cowboys for the top of the division will be the perfect opportunity to strike a blow.

5- Justin Herbert (-) Quarterback – Los Angeles Chargers (3-2)

5 games – 1478 yards at 66.5% – 10 touchdowns, 2 interceptions – 17 yards rushing – 100.8 rating

Justin Herbert and the Chargers can consider themselves lucky not to show a negative balance after 5 games as the correctional came close to facing the Browns. However, Justin Herbert continues his very good season with the accuracy that we know him. For the moment in the shadow of its predecessors in this ranking, it has little to envy them and only asks to supplant them.
