If the latest rumors could suggest a possible franchise tag, it is ultimately on the long term that Mike Williams has extended at the Chargers. ESPN’s Adam Schefter revealed that the receiver and the franchise have agreed to a 3-year, $60 million contract, with $40 million guaranteed and $28 million for the first season in 2021. A big contract for a player who has only exceeded 1000 yards twice in 5 NFL seasons.
Drafted with the 7th pick of the 2017 Draft by the Chargers, Williams was playing this season under the last of his five-year rookie contract. It is therefore the first big overtime for the man who has amassed 1,027 yards and 8 touchdowns in 67 receptions this season, his best in his career.
Chargers and WR Mike Williams reached agreement on a three-year, $60 million deal that includes $40 million guaranteed and $28 million in year one, source tells ESPN.
