The first notes of the famous football game are coming out. Myles Garrett leads the defensive ends.
Madden continues to turn up the heat. After the running backs and defensive tackles the day before, it's time for the defensive ends!
Myles Garret, the DPOY remains on top
The logic is respected among the defensive ends. Myles Garrett, the reigning defender of the year, recovers the first place in his category. A slight hitch however since the leader of the Cleveland defense will have to be content with a 98 and therefore does not obtain the maximum score.
A detail certainly, which concludes a 2023 season of great quality. Author of 42 tackles, 4 forced fumbles including one recovered and 14 sacks, the former Texas A&M player gave it his all and played a major role in the Browns' qualification for the playoffs. A season crowned with a selection to the Pro Bowl, a first team All Pro and NFL Defender of the Year.
A tight race
The defensive end position is very dense in the NFL and several players could claim the first position on the list. This is particularly the case for Micah Parsons who also finishes with a rating of 98. The headliners are very close, and proof if proof were needed of the importance given to pass rushers, we find another best defender of the year in the person of TJ Watt, 3rd with a rating of 97.
Behind Maxx Crosby (97) and Nick Bosa (96), who complete the top 5, the grades are significantly lower since Josh Hines-Allen in sixth position gets a 91. Khalil Mack, also a former best defender of the year (2016), is still part of the top 10 despite a slight loss of speed in recent seasons.
The complete Top 10 (overall rating)
1 – Myles Garrett (98)
2 – Micah Parsons (98)
3 – TJ Watt (97)
4 – Maxx Crosby (95)
