Louis-Rees-Zammit is flying to Florida. Cut by the Chiefs at the end of the preseason, the former rugby player has found a new home: the Jacksonville Jaguars.
ESPN reports that the 22-year-old will join the Florida franchise's practice squad. He will therefore be able to continue his apprenticeship in high-level American football with the Jaguars' reserve team.
But to play in an official match, you will have to be convincing enough to the coaches to be promoted to the active squad.
Louis Rees-Zammit, running back?
Back in April, Andy Reid announced that Louis Rees-Zammit would start at running back. During the preseason, he played in all three Chiefs games. As a running back, but also as a receiver and on special teams. He carried six balls and caught one pass. He even tested out as a kicker during the preseason!
The Jaguars did not suddenly discover an interest in the former Welsh rugby star. Jacksonville was already among the teams interested in his profile when he arrived through the International Pathway Program in March.
Rees-Zammit will also occupy the place reserved for an international player in the Jaguars practice squad. This place is in addition to the 16 already available.
