Lamar Jackson, Patrick Mahomes and Brock Purdy rested in Week 18

Teams already qualified for the play-offs have a choice to make for the final week of the regular season. Franchises can rest starters after a long season or keep players in the rhythm of the competition. The decision was made regarding the quarterbacks this Wednesday for some of the title contenders.

The Ravens without Lamar Jackson

With a first place in the AFC already acquired, the Ravens chose to play without Lamar Jackson against the Steelers on Saturday.

Baltimore coach John Harbaugh announced it to the press. The starting quarterback will be Tyler Huntley.

In 2023, Huntley appeared in three games for the Ravens. He completed 66.7% of his passes for 57 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions.

The Chiefs will rest Patrick Mahomes

Ranked third in the AFC, coach Andy Reid plans to rest some of the team's senior staff in the final regular season game against the Chargers.

Reid announced during his press conference that quarterback Patrick Mahomes would not play and that Blaine Gabbert would take over as starter.

That means Mahomes will finish the 2023 season having completed 67.2% of his throws for 4,183 yards with 27 touchdowns and a career-best 14 interceptions.

A Sam Darnold – Carson Wentz duel

During the 49ers press conference, Kyle Shanahan announced not to play Brock Purdy:

“Brock is the only guy I definitely don't plan on playing. »

As a result, it will be Sam Darnold's turn to start at quarterback.

According to NFL media, the Rams will start Carson Wentz on Sunday against 49ers. This will be Wentz’s first start in a little over a year. So, Sean McVay will let Matthew Stafford breathe before the decisive matches.
