Keenan Allen leaves California for a new challenge in Chicago.
It was a radical decision that was finally taken by the Los Angeles Chargers this Thursday evening.
The California franchise has indeed traded its star receiver Keenan Allen to the Chicago Bears in exchange for a fourth round of draft. According to Ian Rapoport, of NFL Network, who confirmed the news, the player refused the restructuring of his imposing contract at more than 30 million per season, which confirmed the divorce between the two parties.
Allen, 31, was indeed part of this large contingent of players whose salaries weighed far too heavily on the franchise's budget. Before him, defenders Joey Bosa and Khalil Mack had to revise their salary expectations to stay in Los Angeles, and the other receiver Mike Williams had been cut outright.
Drafted in 2013 by the Chargers, and six times Pro Bowler during his career, Keenan Allen comes out of a 2023 exercise at 1,243 yards. All in just 13 matches. Chicago therefore fills a position of need by associating it next season with DJ Moore.
