New York Jets (5-8) – Houston Texans (7-6): 30-6
In the rain and in the cold, the Jets created a surprise with an authoritarian victory against the Texans of CJ Stroud (10/23, 91 yards), left at the end of the match with an injury (concussion). Defensively perfect, Robert Saleh's men only conceded 135 yards compared to 347 in attack. The difference was made in the second half after a scoreless draw at half-time.
Zach Wilson (27/36, 301 yards, 2 TD) was very good, and took Breece Hall (126 yards, 1 TD) and Garrett Wilson (108 yards) in his wake. New York had its best offensive game of the season, despite a line still in difficulty. Despite this victory, the Jets are far from the playoffs but hope is not dead.
The Texans will have to quickly raise their heads, because the performance was unworthy of this team. CJ Stroud was unimaginative, with a terrible line. The defense held out for 30 minutes, before also collapsing in the face of the attacks of the men in green. A week to forget, and a missed opportunity in the AFC South.
The Tartar Desert
The first act was a long offensive agony: 11 punts, 100 yards to 63 for the Jets, and 0 points in total. A football disaster on the offensive level.
The Texans' aerial attack seemed to be without Tank Dell and only Devin Singletary (65 yards, 1 TD) did well in vain. For the Jets it is the ground which is harmless while Zach and Garrett Wilson try to make the difference.
The Jets fly over the game
After a beautiful 75-yard drive, Zach Wilson found Randall Cobb to start the second act with points (7-0). Almost logically, the most enterprising team in this match is rewarded.
The Jets defense is putting CJ Stroud through an ordeal, like an untenable Quinnen Williams. The Jets, full of confidence, doubled the lead with a touchdown from Xavier Gipson on the ground. In capricious weather, Robert Saleh's men succeeded in everything in the second act (14-0).
However, it is the Jets who are scuttling themselves. Zach Wilson releases the ball for a fumble, and gives the Texans a chance at the bottom of the hole. CJ Stroud takes the opportunity to distribute and Devin Singletary concludes on the ground (14-6). Finally there is a match, but not for long.
It's Breece Hall who leaves his mark on the following drive, both on the ground and in the air. His touchdown reception gives the Jets an almost insurmountable lead. Especially since Greg Zuerlein immediately added three points (24-6).
Three possessions away, mass is said. The Jets will score two more field goals, just to confirm their domination.
