New York Jets (3-9) – Seattle Seahawks (7-5): 21 – 26
How sluggish it was for Seattle. Offensively, the game struggled to settle down and Mike MacDonald was quite uninspired in his play calls. The offensive line is definitely not up to par. Kenneth Walker is the first to suffer with only 16 carries for 49 yards. Geno Smith is doing well with 20/3 passes for 206 yards and a touchdown. It was defensively that the Seahawks went for the game. Leonard Williams did it all again. 1 interception returned for a 92-yard touchdown, 2 sacks, 3 tackles for loss. At 7-5 now and with a defense in place, Seattle appears threatening in the race for the playoffs.
The Jets, for their part, played rather well in the first period, particularly on defense and on special teams. But in the second half, they returned to their bad habits. Aaron Rodgers, on the eve of his 41st birthday, also bet on the eve of retirement. His throws are imprecise or even sluggish for some. He finished below 50% of passes completed despite some good connections with Davante Adams (66 yards, 1 touchdown). Defensively, the squad was penalized far too much (around ten times) to be truly effective. With only three victories in 12 games, the season is definitely gloomy for New York.
Leonard Williams intercepts
The bye week seems to have done the Jets good, both offensively and defensively. Quinnen Williams and his colleagues twice stopped the Seattle attack while Aaron Rodgers found Davante Adams for the touchdown after a first possession concluded with a punt. After a blocked conversion, New York found the ball after the Seahawks lost it on the kick return. This time, it's rookie Isaiah Davis (RB) who scores his first career touchdown. Then Breece Hall converted for two points.
At the start of the second quarter, Seattle gradually regained its senses. Geno Smith connects repeatedly with Jaxson Smith-Njigba then finds AJ Barner for the team's first points. The meeting then descends into chaos. First Kene Nwangwu returns a 99-yard touchdown throw. Laviska Shenault loses the ball during the next engagement then Leonard Williams intercepts Rodgers. He brings the ball back into the goal 92 yards further. Three additional points on the Seahawks side and the Jets lead 21-16 at the break.
Leonard Williams sack
Seattle starts this second half much better. Indeed, DK Metcalf makes two big receptions and the Jets shoot themselves in the foot. Two penalties allow the Seahawks to stay on the field in an end-goal situation but they prefer not to take advantage of it. Half a yard from the end zone, Mike MacDonald prefers to call passing plays and Geno Smith ends up getting sacked on fourth attempt. However, the Jets do not do better and Breece Hall loses his leather.
Seattle has to settle for three points due to good defense on the New York side. Then, the two teams went through sluggish offensive sequences. The Jets continue with stupid penalties and Zach Charbonnet ends up punishing them. With 5 minutes remaining, the Seahawks took the lead, 26-21. Behind, Leonard Williams puts the lid back on Aaron Rodgers but the Jets do not admit defeat. Adams converted on fourth down but Williams got his hands on the quarterback again and buried the Jets' hopes. Seattle came out on top after a very messy and sluggish match.
