One season, and goodbye!
A few minutes after winning their last game of the season against the Bills, NFL Network announced that Jerod Mayo is no longer the coach of the Patriots.
The team confirms the information through a press release from owner Robert Kraft. Thus, Jerrod Mayo will only have spent one season as head coach.
He therefore ends his first experience in this position with a record of 4 victories and 13 defeats. A result ultimately similar to that of last year for Bill Belichick's last season.
A highly coveted position to succeed Jerod Mayo
Jerod Mayo may be paying for the bad choices during his mandate, as well as his speech. The choice of quarterback at the start of the season seemed curious given the performance of rookie Drake Maye. His speech is sometimes incoherent, where he scolds his players, especially after a defeat against the Jaguars.
To succeed him, there could be many candidates. The new coach will have a young quarterback already established, and will have to work to surround him. This is good, the Patriots will have more than $130 million for the next free agency. In the Draft, the team has the 4th choice, enough to pick up a young talent.
Already received by the Jets and former Patriots player, Mike Vrabel could have the profile. Other candidates could emerge like Ben Johnson (OC, Lions) or Brian Flors (DC, Vikings).
