Jalen Ramsey breaks cornerback salary record

Records aren't made to last, that's for sure and Surtain. 2 days after the Denver cornerback's record extension, the Dolphins outbid each other this Friday. Jalen Ramsey is (again!) the highest paid cornerback in the league.

According to Adam Shefter (ESPN), the 29-year-old has landed a three-year deal worth $24.1 million per season. Inflation is good for some: In 2020, Ramsey previously signed a record-breaking contract with the Rams worth around $21 million per year.

For his first season with the Dolphins in 2023, Jalen Ramsey only played from week 8. The player had indeed suffered a torn meniscus during training camp. This did not prevent him from accumulating 3 interceptions and 5 passes defended in 10 games. He also received a Pro-Bowl nomination. A habit for the native of Smyrna (Tennessee) who has seven Pro Bowls in eight seasons.

Miami's defense therefore ensures the presence of a strong element of its defense. With the departure of defensive coordinator Vic Fangio (66 years old), and his replacement by the more innovative profile of Anthony Weaver (44 years old), we can hope for a more varied use of Ramsey than last season. Indeed, it was under the orders of Brandon Staley, at the Rams, that Jalen Ramsey had won his first nomination in the All-Pro in 2020. The coordinator then used him in a hybrid way (sometimes outside cornerback, sometimes nickelback, sometimes safety).
