The Jaguars just placed their franchise tag on linebacker Josh Allen. The defender will stay one more year in Jacksonville.
One more ! A few hours before the window for the franchise tag closes, linebacker Josh Allen receives the tag from the Jaguars. This is not a surprise as his importance is great in the Jacksonville defense. The namesake of the Bills quarterback will receive at least a nice salary of $24 million.
According to NFL Network, the Bills and the linebacker would however be in full negotiation for a long-term contract. Allen is fresh off his four-year rookie contract.
2023, Allen's best season
Picked in the seventh round of the 2019 draft, Allen made an immediate impact in his first season in Jacksonville with a Pro Bowl selection. In 2023, the 26-year-old had his best season with 17.5 sacks, one interception, one pass defensed and two forced fumbles.
Add to that 66 tackles, including 17 for a loss and 33 hits on quarterbacks and you get some frightening statistics. The two parties will now have to agree on a big contract if Allen wants to stay with the Jaguars.
