The pass rusher will continue to chase quarterbacks in the AFC South.
Placed under franchise tag during the free agency period, Josh Allen and his representatives could continue to negotiate for a long-term contract with the Jaguars.
After weeks of negotiations, the two parties managed to reach an agreement to extend the pass rusher.
This new contract amounts to $150 million over 5 years according to ESPN, with $88 million guaranteed. This guaranteed amount is the same as that recently received by Brian Burns on the Giants side, another player playing in the same position.
Franchise record in sacks for Josh Allen in 2023
Drafted in 7th position by the Jaguars in 2019, the former Kentucky player started his NFL career well with a season with 10 sacks.
Since his knee injury in 2020, his 2021 and 2022 seasons were honorable with 7 sacks over the season. It was last season that he had the best season of his career with 17.5 sacks, breaking the franchise record in this area. With this long-term contract, he is therefore rewarded.
In addition to the recent signing of Arik Armstead and the extension of Foyesade Oluokun, the Jaguars solidify a front seven tempting.
