Five franchises over the past six seasons. That’s Jadeveon Clowney’s new total. This Friday, NFL Media announces that the pass rusher has signed up for a season with the Ravens.
Baltimore reportedly signed the former Draft number one for up to $6 million.
Present in the league since 2014, Clowney is still only 30 years old. Except that the potential announced during his selection by the Texans has never really been there. Last season, he disappointed with the Browns, accumulating only 2 sacks in 12 games. All this while he could take advantage of the attention that the defenses were giving to Myles Garrett, a number one in the Draft who managed to panic the counters.
Last year, Clowney even stood out especially for his public criticism of the coaches and the Cleveland franchise. The pass rusher had explained that he did not feel appreciated at his true value and was almost certain not to return to the team the following season. On this point, he had flair, since his leaders immediately deactivated him for the last match of the year, before not offering him a new contract.
Clowney has never gone over 10 sacks in a season. His best total dates back to 2017, when he grounded the opposing pitcher 9.5 times for the Texans. Since then, he has passed through Seattle, Tennessee and Cleveland, without ever convincing.
Jadeveon Clowney to Ravens for experience?
Like an Odell Beckham on the offensive side, Jadeveon Clowney arrives in Baltimore to bring experience to a rather young group. The Ravens lost Calais Campbell in the offseason, and the pass rushers expected to take over are Odafe Oweh and David Ojabo, selected in 2021 and 2022 respectively.
With his nine seasons on the clock, Clowney will therefore be a veteran asset for the Ravens.
