It's too early to tell if the Green Bay Packers will play in the snow this fall, but there will definitely be a breath of fresh air at Lambeau Field. After re-releasing their white “Color Rush” uniform on Wednesday night, the Wisconsin franchise unveiled the new helmet that goes with it. In keeping with the rest of the uniform, it is obviously mostly white. All the gold has been removed, leaving only the green “G” logo and two green stripes. A look that is reminiscent of the one recently presented by their division opponent, the Minnesota Vikings. In addition, the slogan for this new kit is inspired by a famous American series: “A whiteout is coming.”
The uniform will be worn on Sunday, October 20 in the early evening. It will be during the reception at Lambeau Field of the Houston Texans for the account of week 7.
Not the first white uniform in Packers history
The Green Bay Packers have worn white jerseys on several occasions. First in 1938, and again in the 1940s and 1950s. White subsequently became the standard color for away jerseys in the 1960s. White helmets were also used in the 1950s, first in 1956 for the home opener against Detroit. More recently, the Green Bay Packers have had the opportunity to play in all white (with a yellow helmet) during the “Color Rush” operations.
A day dedicated to “Winter Warning”
But the Green Bay Packers won't stop there. In addition to the players, the franchise is asking its fans heading to Lambeau Field to also wear white.
“To create a blizzard effect in the stadium in honor of the legendary energy of Packers fans, even in the harshest winter conditions, the team is asking fans to join in the “Winter Warning” by wearing white clothing for the Oct. 20 game against Houston. Fans attending the game will also receive a white “Winter Warning” scarf fromAmerican Family Insurance entering the stadium, to add to the snowstorm atmosphere.”
