Giants unveil retro uniform for 100th season

Back to the 20s and 30s in New York

The Giants will celebrate their 100th season in 2024. They decided to mark the occasion by unveiling a retro uniform. Even very retro. Called “Century Red”, it consists of a modern version of the 1933 jersey, pants and socks from 1925, and helmet from 1938.

“The Century Red uniform brings a modern touch to some of our oldest uniforms and is worn in homage to the players who helped found the Giants franchise,” explains the franchise’s creative director. .

On their website, the Giants specify that the outfit can be worn up to two times next season. However, no details on the matches concerned. Check out the presentation video here.

Numerous references to the history of the franchise

The predominantly red and blue jersey is a reference to the Giants' first season in the NFL championship. The light brown pants and socks similar to the jersey hark back to the franchise's very first season. Finally, the helmet features blue wings on a red background to pay homage to the team that won the NFL championship in 1938.

A commemorative 100th season patch appears on the front of the jersey. The design of the zeros is a reference to the architecture of Giants Stadium. The shape of the blue shield is inspired by the Polo Grounds, the team's first stadium. The bottom of the crest represents a football, with eight laces like the number of titles of the franchise (including four NFL championship titles before the creation of the Super Bowl in 1966). Finally, the silhouette that throws the ball is a nod to Wellington Mara, son of the founder of the franchise and father of the current owner.
