New York extend its offensive weapons.
The Giants wanted to keep their quarterback, and Daniel Jones wanted to break the bank. According to Ian Rapoport for NFL Network, both sides won their case. Selected with the sixth pick of the 2019 Draft, Jones is extended for four years and $160 million. This agreement makes him the sixth highest paid player in the NFL, the same amount as Dak Prescott and Matthew Stafford.
In four seasons, Jones has been more often disappointing than brilliant. But his last year, with Brian Daboll, ended with a qualification in the playoffs. In 2022, he is coming off his best career season, with 3,205 passing yards for 15 touchdowns and 5 interceptions. He also distinguished himself as a double threat as he rushed for 708 yards and scored 7 touchdowns. Enough to convince the Giants to trust him for four more years.
The future of its secure quarterback, New York was able to turn to its running back. This time, no long-term contract for Saquon Barkley but a tag. That gives the 2018 second-round draft pick a guaranteed salary of $10 million in 2023. Another franchise can negotiate with him, but the Giants can match that offer, or let him go and pick up two first-round picks. .
Promising in his first seasons, Barkley then had two complicated years in 2020 and 2021. Back in favor last year, the running back covered 1,312 yards in 295 attempts, and scored 10 touchdowns. More importantly, he has made 16 appearances in 2022, suggesting that his physical issues are behind him for the time being.
