Earthquake in the Big Apple. A few days after the announcement of the loss of the starting position, the New York Giants have just terminated Daniel Jones' contract, according to Jordan Schultz (FOX Sports).
Still according to the American insider, the two parties agreed to an amicable termination of contract. It was Daniel Jones who initiated the breakup. The good relations, described as very respectful, between the quarterback and owner John Mara, allowed this rather unusual transaction for a (former) starting quarterback with a big contract.
Details of the termination agreement are not yet known.
In the process, the Giants posted a post on social networks signed John Mara:
“Daniel came to me this morning and asked us to release him. We both agreed it was the best thing for him and the team.
Daniel has been a superb representative of our organization, unmatched in every way. His way of handling this whole affair yesterday is an example (editor's note: Daniel Jones admitted to not having been good enough). We are all disappointed with the way things ended.
We hold Daniels in high regard, and have a great opinion of him. We wish him nothing less than the best in his future. »
A rather classy end to the story from the organization which had recently relegated Jones to the number 3 position (or even number 4 with the signing of Tim Boyle). Daniel Jones had been seen on the practice squad in recent days, playing a safety role.
Daniel Jones' final statistics are as follows: 69 matches started for 24 victories, 44 defeats and 1 draw. The former Duke University player will have compiled 14,582 yards, 70 TDs and 47 interceptions in the air. On the ground, it was 2,179 yards and 15 touchdowns during the 6 seasons (or rather 5 and a half) that he spent in New York. Less glorious, the 50 fumbles committed (including 19 during his rookie year in 2019!).
At this stage, the new hierarchy of quarterbacks among the G-Men is therefore as follows: Tommy DeVito, Drew Lock, then Tim Boyle.
