Giants – Cowboys (15-20): New York in slow motion

New York Giants (1-3) – Dallas Cowboys (2-2): 15-20

An NFC East Giants-Cowboys classic to open this fourth week of the regular season. For the first time in perhaps several seasons, the supremacy of the Cowboys in this duel (12 victories in the last 13 games led by Prescott) is no longer so obvious. In contact throughout the meeting, the Giants nevertheless never managed to score a single touchdown, advancing in slow motion on the scoreboard. With experience, Dallas grabs a precious victory in its unpredictable division.

Realistic Dallas, eye-catching Giants

No observation round between the two teams who managed to score points in the first quarter. If the Giants strike first, Rico Dowdle (51 combined yards, 1 touchdown) is nevertheless the first to enter the goal. Note: the runner starts on the Dallas side in place of Zeke Elliott (5 races, 19 yards) relegated to the bench. Dak Prescott is in charge (22/27, 221 yards, 2 touchdowns, sacked once) with a long, meticulous drive that spans almost half of the first quarter (6min54). Same sanction on the following drive, concluded in a more expeditious manner by CeeDee Lamb (7 receptions, 98 yards, 1 touchdown). A downside all the same: the salad of penalties (11) collected by Dallas.

Opposite, Daniel Jones (29/40, 281 yards, 1 interception, sacked 1 time) is not ridiculous in his choices and his throws. Wandale Robinson is also emerging as a second option (behind Nabers) among receivers: 11 receptions, 71 yards. Unable to score a touchdown, the Giants nevertheless remained in contact with field goals. 9-14 at halftime.

Status quo

In the second half, Dallas did not push the point home. The fault lies in an inefficient running game which prevents the clock from being counted: 80 yards running, 25 minutes of possession (compared to 35 for New York). The Cowboys are limited to two field goals, including a 60-yarder, from cyborg Brandon Aubrey. Once is (really) not customary, the kicker misses a 51-yard field goal, putting an end to his incredible series of 16 successful kicks of more than 50 yards.

If the Giants' defense has tightened up, the attack is unable to let go, despite Malik Nabers (12 receptions, 115 yards) who confirms from week to week that he is already a number 1 in this league. As in the first period, the Big Apple also made do with field goals. 20-15 at the end of the game after a rather soporific second half.

After their loss against the Ravens, the Cowboys are getting their heads back together. On the Giants side, the performance of the entire team is encouraging on both sides of the ball. The team must now learn to close.
