New York Giants (2-7) – Washington Commanders (7-2): 22-27
The Commanders continue. Carried by Jayden Daniels (15/22, 209 yards, 2TD; 8 races, 35 yards) as precise as ever, Washington has already obtained its seventh victory of the season. Despite the absence of injured Brian Robinson Jr, the Commanders' ground game remained efficient. Well muzzled, Terry McLaurin only had two receptions for 19 yards. But they both took place in the endzone.
Opposite, we had a two-faced Daniel Jones (20/26, 174 yards, 2 TDs; 7 races, 54 yards, 1TD). Unable to make the aerial game work in the first half, the Giants quarterback was very good in the second. But his defense never gave him the opportunity to take the advantage in this meeting.
New York only advances on the ground
At the break, the Giants had 142 yards rushing and -8 passing. Unable to find his targets, Daniel Jones did even worse by letting the ball escape on a sack. Jayden Daniels takes advantage of the situation to find Terry Mclaurin in the endzone.
New York recovers the ball and this time insists until the end on the ground, or almost. On the 2 yards of the Commanders, Jones finds one of his targets in the endzone from MetLife Stadium for the first time in 672 days.
The home defense then proved incapable of stopping the Commanders' attack. Jayden Daniels and his team transformed their two possessions before the break with two touchdowns. 21 to 7 for Washington at halftime.
Washington in control
Contrary to what the score suggests, this meeting did not really have any suspense. We had a transformed Daniel Jones in the second half. The Giants quarterback first scored a powerful touchdown on the ground. He then thought he would restart the game, when he found Théo Johnson on a 35-yard pass in the endzone, three minutes from the end of the game.
The problem for the locals is that every time they score, the Commanders respond on the next possession. Unable to stop the ground game, the Giants defense saw Chris Rodriguez Jr eat up the clock enough not to give Daniel Jones a last opportunity.
Washington offers a second victory this season against New York and is heading straight for the playoffs. For the Giants, eyes are already on the 2025 draft.
