Eagles cut 51-year-old
Bernard Williams hasn’t played in 29 years. But it was Thursday that he was cut by the Eagles. The 14th overall pick in the 1994 Draft, he was suspended for marijuana use in 1995. He never began the process to be reinstated and left to play in Canada. The Eagles reportedly kept his rights all this time.
The Eagles explained to NBC Sports Philadelphia that the NFL notified them of Williams’ presence on their roster by cleaning up the various reserve lists, and therefore probably that of suspended players. The former offensive lineman was not paid and was not contributing towards a possible retirement. He was also not included in the active squad. It had therefore gone completely unnoticed.
Now a delivery boy for Amazon, Williams can be signed by any team. In case.
