Franchise tag, the results: only six players concerned in 2023

Lamar Jackson. Tony Pollard. Evan Engram. Josh Jacobs. Saquon Barkley. Daron Payne.

Here is the official and final list of NFL players who have been retained with the franchise tag in 2023. Teams had until Tuesday night to use this option.

It should be noted that for the six men concerned, it is each time a non-exclusive tag. Translation: the player is free to negotiate with any other team, but his home franchise retains the right to match any offers. If he leaves, the franchise that tagged is compensated with two first-round draft picks given by the new team. Suffice to say that the chances of seeing these six names move are almost nil. Only Lamar Jackson seems likely to be the subject of an offer, even if it is not really the trend.

Runners represent half of the tagged players this season. Pollard, Barkley and Jacobs will receive $10 million guaranteed for the upcoming season. Daron Payne is the only defender retained with a tag.

These players and their teams have until July 15 to negotiate a long-term contract to replace the tag. Otherwise, they will be engaged for one year.
