The Falcons have the sixth-ranked NFL defense in yards allowed this season. A pace that may be difficult to maintain. Because this Monday, ESPN announces that Grady Garrett is suffering from a torn anterior cruciate knee ligament.
His 2023 season is therefore over after 23 tackles and 1.5 sacks in eight games. The 30-year-old defensive tackle is above all the leader of this defense, of which he is also one of the captains.
The injury reportedly occurred on the fourth snap of the Falcons’ first defensive series Sunday against the Titans.
Without Grady Jarrett, forced rejuvenation
Grady Jarrett is one of the Falcons’ veterans. One of the last survivors of the adventure that led Atlanta to the Super Bowl in 2016-17. Without him, Atlanta will have to turn to LaCale Robinson and Ta’Quon Graham, his understudies. The latter was chosen in the fifth round by the Falcons in 2021. He is 24 years old.
Jarrett should make his return next season. He is still under contract for the 2024 and 2025 seasons.
