AJ Terrell will be in Atlanta through the end of the 2028 season. That is, if he completes the four-year contract extension he just signed with the Falcons.
ESPN reports that the cornerback has signed for four years, at a rate of $81 million, including $65.8 million guaranteed. This extension is in addition to the last year of his rookie contract, which will earn him $12.3 million this season.
With an average of 20.25 million greenbacks per season, AJ Terrell becomes the second highest paid cornerback in the league, behind the 21 million per year given to Jaire Alexander on the Green Bay side.
AJ Terrell, made in Atlanta
While the Falcons have made some big signings in recent weeks with Justin Simmons and Matthew Judon, AJ Terrell's contract extension is a homegrown success.
Selected in 16th position in the 2020 Draft, the now 26-year-old cornerback has managed to justify his status, establishing himself in the Falcons' squad, then among the best in the league at his position.
Terrell hasn't thrown an interception in the last two seasons, but that doesn't mean he's not effective. Quarterbacks are avoiding him more than when he started, and he's still managed to defend 11 passes in 2023.
