Philadelphia Eagles (14-3) – New York Giants (9-7-1): 22-16
In this historic NFC East rivalry, the stakes were very different this Sunday. While New York had nothing to gain (or lose), the Eagles had to win to validate the first place in the conference.
Logically, Philadelphia did the job against a second team from New York, applying themselves in attack and defense. For his return after two weeks of injuries, Jalen Hurts (20/35, 229 yards, 1 INT) was rather convincing although notoriously limited in the game plan, with an obvious desire not to make him run.
Helped by an AJ Brown (95 yards) on fire, the quarterback allowed his team to have a 16-point lead at halftime, a gap too big to fill for Davis Webb (23/40, 168 yards, 1 TD, 41 yards on the ground, 1 TD on the ground) and his teammates. Kenny Golladay’s late touchdown saved the honor but made the scoreline misleading.
With this victory Philadelphia is officially first in the NFC and exempted from the first round. The Giants will travel to Minneapolis to face the Vikings.
philadelphia wear
77 yards, here is the starving record of the Giants in the first act. Around a valiant but limited Davis Webb, New York rarely worried the defense of Philly, with the exception of a drive ended in a fake field goal missed.
Conversely, Philadelphia makes sure to come back most of the time with points. Jalen Hurts tempers in an unusual pocket pitching game for him, but willfully cautious after his physical issues. After a first field goal it is on the ground that the Eagles unblock the situation by Boston Scott (54 yards, 1 TD), always brilliant in this division duel (10-0).
Devonta Smith (67 yards) and Kenneth Gainwell (35 yards) also participate in the celebration, but the Eagles do not find the solutions in the red zone, being satisfied with field goal (16-0).
valiant gotham
Back from the locker room, Philadelphia misses the opportunity to kill the game with an interception from Dane Belton in the red zone. This loss of ball comes to reward a brave squad and carried as often by the line. Nick McCloud (1.5 sacks) notably shined with a full performance.
The two teams exchanged a field goal each, the first points for the Giants carried by Lawrence Crager (70 yards) and Gary Brightwell (60 yards) (19-3). Davis Webb does not stop there, and takes advantage of the help of the running game to go and register a touchdown on the ground (19-9). Not enough to get back into the game, but good for morale.
Nick Sirianni’s men will then do what they do best: run and “eat” the clock. Boston Scott takes care of energizing the attack and a new kick restores a good mattress in advance (22-9). Kenny Golladay will save the honor for New York on a reception from 25 yards, but the onside kick of hope is missed (22-16).
