[Draft Sheets] Kamren Kinchens: gifted but limited?

Kamren Kinchens – Safety – 21 years old – Junior – Miami

Height: 1m81
Weight: 93 kg
2023 stats: 10 games, 59 tackles, 1 sack, 5 interceptions, 1 touchdown
Estimated draft position: 2nd round
NFL Comparison: Eddie Jackson

Co-leader of a homogeneous safety class, Kamren Kinchens has been losing momentum in recent weeks, both literally and figuratively. The Miami Hurricanes product has serious arguments in terms of pure ball, but the whole question lies in his limitations.

Strong points

  • Playmaker
  • Vision
  • Versatility

With 11 interceptions over the last two seasons, Kinchens has shown that he is an accomplished playmaker. Attracted by the ball, his vision of the game and his sense of the ball allow him to punish the quarterback. He reads well the eyes and intentions of the opposing thrower to anticipate his movement towards the trajectory of the ball.

If these qualities encourage a deep positioning as a free safety, Kinchens can evolve in different roles. His abilities against the run and in particular his tackling quality also allow him to be able to line up in a nickel role, playing near the advantage line. Different positions that he tried all during his studies. A welcome versatility, especially in a rookie. It could be used as needed.

Weak points

  • Athletic qualities
  • Ceiling

The annual high mass of the Combine in Indianapolis did not really highlight the physical qualities of the Miami player. A very small 4.65 in the 40 yards, a mediocre long jump for which he finished last among the defensive backs, he came out with a catastrophic athletic rating. The Hurricanes pro on March 18 will be decisive in trying to show something else. These athletic shortcomings are felt on the field in his explosiveness after the snap or his changes of direction.

If Kamren Kinchens remains a good player with a floor that will allow him to evolve in the NFL, the question of his room for improvement raises questions. Isn't the safety already at his maximum potential? His 2023 season in any case gave the impression of a player who is stagnating.

Possible destinations

San Francisco 49ers, Buffalo Bills, Los Angeles Rams

Long considered the number safety or 1 or 1 bis, Kamren Kinchens sees his rating drop as the draft process progresses. And his athletic performances didn't help matters. A contender at the end of the 1st round a few months ago, he would probably have to wait until the middle of the 2nd evening to hear his name called.

A boon for teams looking for renewal for their final curtain. With their historic duo at the end of their contract, the Bills should not escape a rookie reinforcement in the position, even if a reinforcement were to intervene during free agency or if Micah Hyde ends up returning. Same observation with the Rams or the 49ers where Kamren Kinchens could quickly find a starting place.
