As is often the case in recent years, the two franchises are the most rewarded.
Each year, choices are added to the Draft. These are so-called “compensatory” choices, awarded to teams that lost players during free agency the previous year.
A formula including salaries, playing time and playoff experience is used to determine players whose departure is compensated by a Draft pick. Since 2020, teams that have seen a coach or manager from a minority background be hired by another franchise have also been compensated.
This year 34 new choices will be added to the Draft. Among the winners are the 49ers and the Rams with five additional picks.
