The images are striking. During the first half of Thursday Night Football, between the Bengals and the Dolphins, Tua Tagovailoa had to be evacuated to a hospital in Cincinnati, following a sack by defensive tackle Josh Tupou. The Florida quarterback’s helmet hit the ground hard and the shock was followed by a loss of coordination in his upper limbs, a neurological response that could be one of the signs of brain trauma.
Placed on a stretcher before being transported to an ambulance, the 24-year-old pitcher was conscious and had sensations in all his extremities, during his transfer to a medical center.
Tua Tagovailoa had already appeared to suffer a concussion this weekend, against Buffalo, before resuming his place. The NFL had opened an investigation into his return to play against the Bills but, for the moment, it has revealed nothing abnormal in the procedure.
Tua Tagovailoa has been taken to a local hospital for further evaluation. He is conscious and has movement in all his extremities.
