Diontae Johnson (WR) leaves the Panthers in North Carolina to join the Ravens in Baltimore. The two franchises have agreed to exchange the receiver and a 6e round of the 2025 draft against a 5e round of the 2025 draft.
The exchange seemed obvious. Diontae Johnson was taken off the field to be preserved during the Panthers' last meeting. And the receiver was no longer focused on Dave Canales' (HC) game plan.
This is the second time Diontae Johnson has been sent to another team this season. The receiver returns to the AFC North that he knew for 5 years with Pittsburgh and convincing statistical seasons. The Panthers only welcomed him for 7 games, 30 receptions, 357 yards and 3 touchdowns.
Baltimore continues to exist
If on paper a receiver doesn't look like a priority for the Ravens, the arms race is very real in the AFC. The Maryland franchise must keep pace with the Chiefs, undefeated, and with DeAndre Hopkins, but also the Bills and their new player Amari Cooper.
Lamar Jackson (QB) will therefore be able to count on a new target in addition to Zay Flowers, Rashod Batemen or Isaiah Likely. The two receivers and the tight end account for 527, 422 and 271 receiving yards respectively. While the best touchdown scorer remains Mark Andrews (TE, 4 touchdowns).
However, the numerous mistakes during the defeat against the Browns must have been a major factor in setting up the trade. Diontae Johnson is not here on vacation.
