The Saints and Panthers have reportedly already made offers for Deshaun Watson, and TexansDaily.com reports the quarterback met with executives from both franchises Monday night.
This Tuesday, it’s the turn of a slightly more unexpected team to have its interview: the Cleveland Browns.
The difference, of course, is that the Browns are supposed to have a quarterback in place in Baker Mayfield, who is expected to make just over $18 million this coming season.
But the year 2022 is the last of the contract of Baker Mayfield, who has not yet signed an extension. His bosses’ interest in Watson already seems to indicate that he is not seen as the future of the franchise.
With Cleveland, Watson inherits an option that offers perhaps more advantages than Carolina and New Orleans. The Browns have an offensive-minded coach in place for several years, as well as some solid elements like Myles Garrett, Nick Chubb and the recent arrival of Amari Cooper.
Also this Tuesday, Watson also has an appointment with civil justice. He must testify and answer the questions of the lawyer of the twenty women who filed a complaint against him for sexual assault. We will obviously have to keep an eye on the details that will emerge and a possible sanction from the NFL.
