At a press conference this Monday, Kevin O'Connell said he was a fan of Daniel Jones. And his frankness was quick to take action to win the bet. According to Jordan Schultz of Fox Sportsthe former New York Giants quarterback has just signed with the Minnesota Vikings.
Selected in 6th position in the 2019 Draft by the Giants, Daniel Jones will experience his second team in the NFL. Although he has been a consistent starter over the past six seasons, he has never been a unanimous choice. A situation which only got worse after the franchise signed him to a four-year, $160 million contract in March 2023. An event which also led to the departure of running back Saquon Barkley, today in the running for MVP… This season, Daniel Jones has thrown for 2,070 yards, eight touchdowns and seven interceptions. He led the Giants to five straight losses before the team decided to replace him with Tommy DeVito.
Daniel Jones limited to backup role in Minnesota
More than a dozen teams were interested in the pitcher, but the player chose competitiveness. He comes to Minnesota as Sam Darnold's backup, and is expected to sign for the veteran minimum. Prorated, the Vikings would have to pay nearly $375,000 to secure his services until the end of the season. No worries for Daniel Jones though, this amount will only be a small compensation for what the Giants owe him. The pitcher must still receive nearly $22 million from the New York franchise.
With a coach like Kevin O'Connell who has shown that he is capable of getting the best out of his quarterbacks, Jones can hope to get back on track. Jordan Schultz also specifies that the desire of the 27-year-old quarterback was to find himself in a system favorable to QBs. Here he is in the right place.
