Dallas Cowboys (1-2) – Baltimore Ravens (1-2): 25-28
It was one of the shocks of this third week of the regular season. After a bad start to the season. The Cowboys and the Ravens had to make up for it at all costs by winning this match. Unfortunately for the beauty of the game, only Baltimore answered the call… until the fourth quarter.
In the last four seasons, the Ravens have lost ten games when leading by at least seven points in the fourth quarter. Baltimore went into the game leading 28-6, but ultimately won by just three points, 28-25.
The Ravens win their first game of the season and break their curse. The Cowboys lose their second game in a row, having shown a two-sided face.
Dominant until the fourth quarter, the light almost went out for Baltimore
It's hard to understand how the Ravens came within a hair's breadth of yet another choke. 274 yards rushing, 35 minutes of possession, but only a three-point deficit.
John Harbaugh's men had set the tone from the start by scoring fourteen points in the first quarter. Nate Wiggins (CB) had even hammered the nail in the coffin by causing a fumble by CeeDee Lamb while Dallas was in the red zone. At halftime, the Ravens were leading 21 to 6 thanks to the flamboyant Lamar Jackson (12/15, 182 yards thrown, 87 yards on the ground, two touchdowns) and Derrick Henry (25 carries, 152 yards, two touchdowns). The only notable event for Dallas was a 65-yard field goal (!) made without any difficulty by Brandon Aubrey.
When Derrick Henry scored his second touchdown of the game after the break (28-6), we thought – rightly – that the lead was too big to imagine a comeback by the Cowboys. And yet…
Dallas wakes up (too) late
And yet, Dallas came close to a resounding comeback. With only nine minutes left on the scoreboard, something seemed to have jammed the machine on the Baltimore side. Dak Prescott (28/51, 379 yards thrown, three touchdowns) scored a touchdown on the ground at the end of a well-executed drive (28-12). Dallas recovered the first onside kick of the season since the rule change. The Cowboys reduced the gap to ten points after a touchdown by KaVontae Turpin. Dallas managed to quickly recover the ball and scored another touchdown to reduce the gap to only three points.
Unfortunately, the comeback ends there as Lamar Jackson manages to run the clock by getting a first attempt with his legs. With no timeouts left, the Cowboys are helpless against the clock that is running out. The Ravens avoid humiliation.
