The Dallas Cowboys will no longer be led by Mike McCarthy. NFL Media announces that the coach at the end of his contract and the franchise have not reached an agreement on a new lease, and that he will therefore be free.
The two camps reportedly failed to agree on the duration of the contract.
Mike McCarthy spent five seasons in Dallas, with 84 wins and 49 losses in the regular season. He qualified his team for the playoffs three times. During the final stages, Dallas passed a round in 2022-23.
This season, amid a barrage of injuries, the Cowboys reached a record of 7 wins for 10 losses.
Mike McCarthy and the late Cowboys
A few days ago, the Chicago Bears asked to meet Mike McCarthy. Dallas refused because the Cowboys still had exclusivity on negotiations with the coach at that time.
But now, the 61-year-old technician is free to talk to anyone he wants. Except he arrives a bit in the middle of the battle. Most teams looking for a coach have already started their search.
Same problem for Dallas, which finds itself launching its recruitment process more than a week behind the other teams.
The Cowboys are the sixth team actively seeking a coach. The Patriots are the first franchise to announce a recruitment this year.
