With the return of Juju Smith-Schuster, Kadarius Toney (WR) was seriously threatened. And for good reason: he was just cut by the Kansas City Chiefs on Tuesday, August 27. He will not be on the list of 53 players retained by Andy Reid. According to Dianna Russini of The Athletic, the Chiefs have nevertheless tried everything to trade the receiver before the final deadline. Unfortunately, it will be a pure and simple rupture for the 25-year-old player.
However, Ian Rapoport and NFL Network expect him to bounce back quickly with another team. A sad end, all the same, for the man Andy Reid called “one of the most talented players on the team” last April.
Poor performance and termination of contract
Selected with the 20th pick in the 2021 draft, Toney made his debut with the Giants. In 2022, New York decided to trade him to Kansas City for a third and sixth round draft pick. However, in 2024, the Chiefs declined his fifth year as an option on his rookie contract. He would therefore become, quite certainly, a free agent at the end of the 2024 season.
It's finally sooner that the complicated story between Toney and the Chiefs ends. Often criticized for his poor performances, the 25-year-old receiver played 13 games in 2023. He finished the season with a record of 27 passes caught in 38 attempts. All with a record of 169 receiving yards and a small touchdown.
