Chiefs: Former rugby player Louis Rees-Zammit does not pass

The media Louis Rees-Zammit is not staying. The former Welsh rugby player was just released by the Chiefs on Tuesday, August 27. Andy Reid decided not to include him in Kansas City's final squad. However, he had impressed during training at the beginning of the spring. So much so that a position as a running back specializing in return for engagement seemed promised to him. But places in the NFL are expensive.

However, this is not necessarily the end of the adventure for the former rugby player in reconversion. If he is not claimed, he risks signing in the Chiefs practice squad as an additional player, since he comes from the international bridge to the NFL.

Rugby star in England

At just 23, the native of Penarth, Wales, has quickly become a rugby star. He was the youngest player in the Gloucester team to play in the Premiership, the equivalent of the Top 14 in England. He signed his first contract with Gloucester in 2020. The following year, he was named his team's best young player.

In January 2024, Rees-Zammit caused a stir when he announced his desire to leave rugby to join the NFL. After successful trials, he signed a first contract with the Chiefs, which will not be honored for the time being.
