Kansas City Chiefs (7-2) – Miami Dolphins (6-3): 21-14
It’s a story of two periods, each team having its own half. In a packed Deutsche Bank Stadion in Frankfurt (50,023 spectators), Kansas City marched on Miami in the first period: 21-0 at halftime.
In the second half, the Chiefs remained silent while Miami scored 14 points. The Dolphins will have one last chance, but a poor transmission from Center Connor Williams ends their hopes of remontada : 21 to 14 for Kansas City, final score.
Patrick Mahomes finished with 20 completed passes out of 30 attempts: 185 yards and two passing touchdowns. All without using his favorite weapon by only targeting Travis Kelce 4 times. The latter finished the match with only 14 yards.
Everything then nothing for Kansas City
No doubt galvanized by the atmosphere, Patrick Mahomes starts the match with a series of almost three minutes, going 75 yards. The Chiefs pitcher finds rookie Rashee Rice to take the lead.
In the second quarter, the Chiefs would do even better with a series of 13 plays to gain 95 yards culminating in a touchdown scored by Jerrick McKinnon. In addition, this drive allows them to eat 8.28 minutes on the clock!
The first half was one-sided and the defense was also up to par, notably with a defensive touchdown from safety Bryan Cook. But how can we explain the shortage of the second half?
Before this game, the Chiefs were the worst team in points scored in the final quarter. In this match, they didn’t score anything in the entire second half! The defense as well as the offensive difficulties of the Dolphins allowed them to stay in front and win.
Dolphins absent then hectic
With a lethargic offense in the first half, Miami was nonexistent in the first half. The Dolphins, however, managed to put themselves in a position to obtain an extension.
It took 41.13 minutes of play for Miami to finally score points! A series where Tua Tagovailoa goes back 75 yards in 8 plays for a touchdown after a reception from Cedric Wilson. Hope returns somewhat to 21-7.
Then it’s the defense which gives Miami some energy with Bradley Chubb who forces a loss of the ball from Patrick Mahomes and covers the ball on the ground. The offensive series that followed allowed runner Raheem Mostert to score a touchdown in the race. A Chris Jones roughing penalty extended the series for Miami. There is hope and Miami believes in its chances.
The end of the match was thrilling but ultimately unsuccessful for the Dolphins who at least gave emotions to the fans present in the stadium.
Tyreek Hill said he would be a nightmare for his former teammates, but with only 62 yards and 1 lost fumble, he couldn’t put the facts behind his words.
Next week’s bye week will do Miami some good. As for Kansas City, they will have to learn to play 60 minutes and not just 30!
