The Los Angles receiver tore his knee ligament.
Hit in the left knee against the Vikings, Mike Williams underwent an MRI to confirm the damage suffered by his leg. Club management had confided their concerns to NFL Network earlier in the day, and the worst-case scenario is confirmed: Williams is suffering from a torn anterior cruciate ligament, and he will be unavailable for the rest of the season as reported by ESPN.
The Chargers receiver came out during the third quarter Sunday against the Vikings when he had just caught seven balls for 121 yards and a touchdown. His 2023 campaign therefore ends with 249 yards receiving.
Since his selection in 2017, Williams has been Keenan Allen’s sidekick in Los Angeles’ aerial game, and has had two campaigns with more than 1,000 yards. Last season he caught 63 passes for 895 yards and 4 touchdowns.
Williams is expected to be released for training camp next year. He remains under contract with Los Angeles for another year.
