Chargers – Lions (38-41): Offensive orgy and ridiculous defenses

Los Angeles Chargers (4-5) – Detroit Lions (7-2): 38-41

A match not to be shown in defensive football schools. 954 yards in total and 79 points, the Lions won a match where the attacks shined against sieve defenses. That of the Lions, powerless against the aerial game (323 yards). That of the Chargers, mediocre against the run (200 yards on the ground). After an exchange of touchdowns lasting four quarters, the Lions emerge victorious.

Detroit at a run

In the first half, the Chargers simply had no solution against the Lions’ running schemes. Rookie Jahmyr Gibbs (14 races, 77 yards, 2 touchdowns) is having a blast, as is veteran David Montgomery (12 races, 116 yards, 1 touchdown). Los Angeles’ run defense is pretty much ridiculous (6.5 yards per carry allowed). Quickly, Jared Goff’s friends (23/33, 333 yards, 2 touchdowns) lead 17-3.

Indeed, opposite, Justin Herbert is in difficulty, perhaps embarrassed by his finger, but also guilty of bad decisions, like this interception while he tries to throw the ball out of bounds.

The receivers ball

However, the Chargers have not said their last word and are beginning their comeback, helped by Detroit’s air defense, also in dire straits. Justin Herbert (27/40, 323 yards, 4 touchdowns, 1 interception) works, helped by a Keenan Allen XXL (11 receptions, 175 yards, 2 touchdowns). The Chargers score two touchdowns before halftime, but the Lions return the favor.

It’s quite simple, after the Chargers’ last punt at the start of the second quarter, the teams exchanged a grand total of nine touchdowns. On the Lions side, it’s Amon-Ra St. Brown who delivers another sparkling performance (8 receptions, 156 yards, 1 touchdown), well liberated by the superb offensive schemes of coordinator Ben Johnson.

Late in the game, Detroit had the last possession and managed the clock well to put Riley Patterson in position. The kicker executes and crucifies the Chargers defensively the entire game.

Los Angeles is moving further away from the playoffs. With 4 wins and 5 defeats, the Californians are now 12th in the AFC, with only 7 seats.
