The cleaning continues on Charlotte's side. After Frank Reich during the season, it's Scott Fitterer's turn to leave.
The Carolina Panthers announced on Monday that the general manager has been fired. David Tepper takes care of the farewell message.
“We are going to take a new direction for our team, and I have made the decision that Scott Fitterer will no longer be our general manager. I appreciate Scott's efforts. I wish him and his family the best,” says Tepper.
A disastrous exchange, complicated Drafts
Fitterer could hardly escape this fate as the Bears officially won the first pick of the next Draft thanks to him. Fitterer sent his 2024 first-round pick to Chicago last year, with DJ Moore as a bonus, to grab the 2023 first-round pick and select Bryce Young.
A year later, Young had a very complicated season (11 TDs, 10 ints in 16 games) and the Carolina Panthers plunged to the bottom of the standings even though they had won 7 games in 2022.
Overall, his choices in the Draft between 2021 and 2023 haven't really strengthened the team. If injuries haven't helped players like Jaycee Horn, others, like Matt Corral (QB, 3rd round, 2022), Terrace Marshall (WR, 2nd round) or Tommy Tremble (TE, 3rd round) have been pretty major failures.
From now on, everything seems to have to be rebuilt around Bryce Young.
