Arizona pulled the trigger.
The opportunity to take command of an NFL offense fell flat for Colt McCoy. According to NFL Media, Arizona has decided to cut the veteran as part of the downsizing to 53 players.
While the Cardinals made the decision not to activate Kyler Murray from the Physically Unable to Perform List (PUP) list before Tuesday’s deadline, the starting spot was up for grabs. Murray, who injured his knee last December, will continue his rehabilitation and will be out for at least the first four weeks of the competition. McCoy was therefore tipped to potentially take the job.
Yet he was hampered all summer by an elbow injury, and Arizona management had been reluctant for weeks to name him starter. Finally the club arranged a trade with Cleveland for Joshua Dobbs last week, and the horizon darkened.
Now the Cardinals have only Dobbs and Clayton Tune as options to start the season.
