Browns tag David Njoku

Cleveland poses its option to keep its tight end.

The Browns want to keep David Njoku. In order to avoid the risk of seeing him go on the open market, they decided to trigger their tag franchise according to NFL Media. The franchise had announced that it was ready to cross 10 million dollars per season, so it will be done.

Njoku will be applied the franchise tag of tight ends which will amount to 10.8 million this year. Under the option, this salary is fully guaranteed.

Cleveland has expressed willingness to work out a long-term deal with Njoku. The two parties will have until July 15 to agree on a long-term contract. Beyond that, if the negotiations are unsuccessful, the option will apply for 2022.

Njoku has just finished his five seasons of rookie contract, so he could become an unrestricted free agent. This year he caught 36 passes for 475 yards and 4 touchdowns. He has 148 receptions for 1,754 yards and 15 career touchdowns since being selected in the first round of the 2017 draft.
