While testifying before the House Ways and Means Committee, former Green Bay Packers star Brett Favre revealed that he has been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease.
The former quarterback was testifying in a case involving the embezzlement of funds intended for Temporary Assistance for Needy Families.
In total, $8 million is alleged to have gone into the pockets of Favre, the University of Southern Mississippi and a pharmaceutical company he supported. Favre is alleged to have personally received $1.1 million from the State of Mississippi for lectures he ultimately did not give.
“I had invested in a company that was working on a revolutionary treatment for concussions. Although it's too late for me – since I was recently diagnosed with Parkinson's disease – it's a cause that is very close to my heart because it would have benefited other people. Unfortunately, the doctor who received his funds admitted that he used them for his own personal gain,” the former Packer told the committee on Tuesday.
The news doesn't really come as a surprise since Favre had claimed on a radio show in 2022 that he had suffered around a hundred concussions during his career (from 1991 to 2010).
He also admitted to suffering from an addiction to painkillers and having undergone three detoxification stays.
