Chiefs release Marquez Valdes-Scantling
According to ESPN, the Kansas City franchise decided this Wednesday to release receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling. This move will allow the Chiefs to save $12 million in payroll for 2024.
In 2023, he caught a pass to secure the Chiefs' victory in the AFC Championship Game against the Ravens. And he scored the Chiefs' first touchdown in their Super Bowl LVIII victory against the 49ers. However, during the regular season he finished well behind rookie Rashee Rice (WR).
With this cut and the franchise tag of L'Jarius Sneed, the major topic on the Kansas City side is the re-signing of Chris Jones (DT).
Jets: Joe Douglas’ announcements
At the Combine on Wednesday, Jets general manager Joe Douglas announced that he had given permission to Zach Wilson's (QB) agent to seek a trade. This is no surprise since owner Woody Johnson said:
“We need a backup quarterback. We didn't have any last year. »
Despite the fact that edge rusher Bryce Huff is among the most interesting in future free agency, Joe Douglas also clarified that the Jets did not want to use the franchise tag for him. The general manager wants to meet with Huff's agent at the Combine to try to reach an agreement on a long-term contract.
Dolphins 2024? Tua Tagovailoa with new contract and Jaylen Waddle
During the Combine, Dolphins general manager Chris Grier was very clear on the subject Jaylen Waddle (WR). According to ESPN, Grier laughed when the possibility of a Waddle trade was brought up to him.
“I'm not considering trading Jaylen Waddle. He will stay here for a long time. »
Pick No. 21 in the 2021 draft, Waddle is eligible for a contract extension this offseason. He recorded at least 1,000 receiving yards in each of his first three seasons. In 2023, he has caught 72 passes for 1,014 yards with four touchdowns in 14 games.
Chris Grier also specified that he would begin discussions for a new contract with the agent of Tua Tagovailoa (QB) at the Combine. He told ESPN he's “hopeful” to get a deal done this offseason, but added that these types of big extensions “rarely get done quickly.”

Jonathan Gannon: “The sky is the limit” for Kyler Murray
Tuesday at the Combine, when asked about Kyler Murray (QB), Jonathan Gannon thinks “the sky is the limit” if he stays healthy. The coach wanted to highlight the good performances of the team during the player's return (3-5) while the Cardinals had 1 victory and 8 defeats before that.
“ [Je] think you saw towards the end of the year how we evolved and we're going to pick up where we left off and then continue to develop for him what he's comfortable with. […] I don't think you've seen his best either. And I'm confident in that because he's a guy who's attacking better and better every day. And it's a new system for him. […] So, I think he handled the situation extremely well. »
NFL Players Association Annual Report
The NFL Players Association released its report on franchises based on player evaluations this Wednesday.
The franchises were rated based on 11 criteria: Family Treatment, Food/Cafeteria, Nutritionist/Dietician, Locker Room, Training Room, Staff, Weight Room, Strength Trainers, Team Travel, Head Trainer and Owner. Each criterion is graded from A+ to F-.
We can note that the best rated owners with A+ are those of the Vikings and the Dolphins. The lowest rated with F- is the Chiefs. Conversely, the highest rated head coaches with A+ are Andy Reid (Chiefs), Dan Campbell (Lions) and Kevin O'Connell (Vikings). Unsurprisingly, Josh McDaniels brings up the rear with a D.
