The Texans offense came back to life with CJ Stroud in 2023. But that was obviously just a taste of what's to come in 2024.
Houston signed Stefon Diggs during the offseason. Joe Mixon also arrived. These two players join a group already composed of Dameon Pierce, Nico Collins, Tank Dell, Dalton Schultz and Laremy Tunsil. A host of quality players to surround the Stroud gems.
Enough to also give a lot of optimism to Bobby Slowik, the offensive coordinator.
“It removes all the limits on what you can do to win a match,” Slowik explained at a press conference. “If we think we have to throw deep to win the game, we can do it. If we have to throw short to win, we can do it. If we have to run 30 times to win, we think we can do it. It allows us and gives us the confidence to really do whatever it takes on that day to beat the team that's in front of us. »
The Texans complete, but under pressure
No one expected the Texans last season. Now the reigning AFC South champions, they will be an opponent to take down for the Jaguars, Titans and Colts.
In 2023, their offense was 13th in the league in points scored and 12th in yards gained. There is still plenty of room for improvement for Bobby Slowik's squad. The 36-year-old coordinator should also be even more comfortable in his second year at the helm of the attack.
With Diggs in particular, Houston has recovered a player who finished the last six seasons with more than 1,000 yards. Nico Collins will approach the season with the peace of mind of a new contract.
The questions rather hover around the ground game, 22nd in the league in yards gained last year, with Dameon Pierce having difficulty confirming his good start to his career. Not sure that Joe Mixon, not necessarily more dashing with the Bengals in 2023, is necessarily the solution.
