Bill Belichick new coach of North Carolina!

Six-time Super Bowl winner with the Patriots as head coach, Bill Belichick will coach for the first time in his NCAA career.

According to ESPN, the 72-year-old coach is committed to the University of North Carolina – the former university of Drake Maye, quarterback of the… Patriots today. According to The Athletic, the duration of his contract is 3 years, and 30 million dollars.

He will therefore replace Mack Brown, 73, who has led the Tar Heels university football program for 6 seasons. Last season, the record was disappointing with… 6 victories and 6 defeats. With this hiring, North Carolina therefore remains the university with the oldest coach in the 1st university division (FBS).

The Belichick family on the staff?

While he began to explore opportunities to continue coaching in the NFL, it is towards the NCAA that he will continue (and perhaps end) his coaching career. The former Patriots coach was starting to familiarize himself with the transfer portal and NIL (image rights) contracts. Above all, it is no coincidence that Bill Belichick chooses North Carolina as his destination.

His father Steve was a former assistant coach in the 1950s for the same university. Moreover, one of his sons, Stephen, defensive coordinator at the University of Washington, is being considered to join the staff. His other son Brian could also join him at the end of the Patriots' NFL season.

In any case, his hiring will be a huge boost to the NCAA, and especially to the North Carolina program. With players looking for a potential new college through the transfer portal, there is no doubt that the Tar Heels are now going to be a highly rated potential destination. Bill Belichick even announces the color, saying on the show The Pat McAfee Show that it would be an NFL program, but not at the NFL level.

Its objective is therefore to try to get its hands on the ACC conference. A conference that North Carolina has not won in American football since 1980.
