Bengals – Panthers (42-21): A dazzling Joe Mixon crushes Carolina

Cincinnati Bengals (5-4) – Carolina Panthers (2-7): 42-21

There are evenings like this where nothing can resist you. It is this kind of evening that the Bengals runner experienced against the Panthers. With 211 yards and 5 touchdowns scored (!), Joe Mixon put on a performance that will live on in his memories, in those of the fans and in the history books of the NFL.

Inevitably faced with such a performance, the Panthers did poorly and bowed heavily.

carolina shredded

The Bengals pulled out their claws and never let go of their prey either on offense or defense in the first half. Facing them is a Carolina team closer to the sheep than the panther, shredded in every way.

On offense, Joe Mixon shone with a thousand fires by gaining 113 yards on 15 carries and 58 yards on 4 receptions. Add to that 3 touchdowns on the ground and 1 at the reception, all in one half! The runner offered an XXL performance in this first act to allow his team to largely lead 35-0 at halftime.

The other touchdown was scored by Joe Burrow (22/28, 206 yards, 1TD) on a full-center race on the goal line after a nice drive of 10 actions and 70 yards back.

With such a lead at halftime, the attack of course shone but was not the only one. Cincinnati’s defense is not outdone with 2 interceptions and especially having allowed the Panthers only 32 yards and 1 first down won at halftime!

Baker Mayfield the return

After such a humiliation in the first half, the Panthers change tack on recovery and sends Baker Mayfield (14/20, 155 yards, 2TD) to the front. A rather successful choice since the quarterback will lead his team to two touchdowns, she who had won only 1 first down in the first two quarters.

On his first, Mayfield connects with Tommy Tremble, on the second, it’s Terrace Marshall who manages a 21-yard reception for the touchdown. It’s hard not to imagine the Bengals defense slacking off a bit after leading by 35 points but…

On the Bengals side, the coaches take no risk and put Joe Burrow on the bench. Only Joe Mixon remains, still as difficult to stop, and who will score a 5th touchdown to lead his team to lead 42 to 14.

At the very end of the match, Carolina will add a touchdown on the ground to come back to 42-21, a much less salty addition than the content of the match suggests.
