Bears – Seahawks (3-6): the important thing is the six points

Chicago Bears (4-12) – Seattle Seahawks (9-7): 3-6

Lowest score of the season and no touchdowns. It's an understatement to say that the final Thursday game of the 2024 season wasn't exactly a football high point. But for Seattle, the main thing was elsewhere: to survive.

With this narrow success, saved by the defense, the Seahawks must now hope for a defeat by the Rams against the Cardinals on the night of Saturday to Sunday. If that happens, Seattle and Los Angeles will face off for the division title in the final week.

Riq Woolen saves the Seahawks

In such a poor match offensively, the advantage is that the suspense ultimately remains present. The Bears could therefore go for the win when they recovered the ball with a little over five minutes to play. Five minutes that they almost completely used to get… to the opposing 40 yards. There, 20 seconds from time, Caleb Williams (16/28, 122 yards, 1 int) was intercepted by Riq Woolen, who thus ensured the success of his team.

The end of a long ordeal for the Chicago quarterback, sacked 7 times this Thursday, notably by an unleashed Leonard Williams (2 sacks, 4 QB hits)! His offense finished with just 179 total yards, at a terrible rate of 3.1 yards per play.

Seattle cuts power

The Seahawks initially did a little better, notably by using a rather sharp Zach Charbonnet (15 carries, 57 yards) on the ground. But their defensive coordinator strangely decided to move away from the ground to try to pass through the air. Not really an inspired decision as Geno Smith (17/23, 160 yards) and his squad were less sharp.

Result, a second half without a single point. It was on their very first possession and just before halftime that Jason Myers scored the two kicks which allowed his team to win.

While Chicago suffers its tenth defeat in a row, a franchise record in one season, the Seahawks remain hopeful. We will only remember that.
