Chicago Bears (4-5) – New England Patriots (3-7): 3-19
A Patriots defender who goes straight to Caleb Williams (16/30, 120 yards), with no one to prevent him from putting the quarterback on the ground. A sequence which took place in the last quarter and sums up the match lost by Chicago.
The offensive line again let the number one from the last Draft take 9 sacks. And when he had a little time, Williams sometimes lacked precision.
Result: a poor little field goal and no more.
Drake Maye (15/35, 184 yards, 1 TD, 1 int) was able to count on more support from his line and the ground game (35 races, 144 yards). Enough to allow him to do what is necessary to win.
The Patriots do the minimum
While the Bears were struggling offensively, New England still didn't put up a showing.
One touchdown was enough. It was scored by Ja'Lynn Polk in the second quarter on a pass from Drake Maye.
For the rest we had to settle for the minimum, with field goals from Joey Slye, two of which ended up killing the suspense in the last quarter.
The Bears in agony
The Bears' offensive numbers are terrifying: 142 total yards. 1/14 on third attempt. 8 punts. 69 passing yards once all the yards lost on sacks are deducted…
Even if you don't lose a single ball, it's impossible to win in these conditions. In the end, Chicago's most exciting action was a 38-yard punt return.
If the line and Caleb Williams are in trouble, Chicago's coaches must also find solutions to avoid such an offensive tragedy.
